Extra curricular reading - number 17

It’s interesting to analyse the seemingly progressive representation of LGBTQ+ groups in the mainstream media, however it seems to be produced mainly by those in the dominant hegemony. There is a noticeable ‘straight perspective’ in the making of these shows. It arguably creates the impression of the BBC utilising virtue signalling to appear progressive and diverse

On the other hand, it is a great improvement in the representation of queer love, normalising these relationships and allowing queer audiences to enjoy a relatable ‘Love Island’ cast.

I watched a lecture from massolit about social media
Definition- web based services that allow people to collaborate, connect and interact by enabling them to engage with user created content

3 elements of social media- user generated content, connectivity, interactivity

Social media collapses the ideas of public and private- privacy is lacked in society due to social media

More extra curricular than super curricular- A social media marketing event I was invited to with 15 other beauticians who utilise social media marketing to enhance their businesses. This event was hosted by the UK’s largest professional lash brand. I was invited due to social media marketing strategies I have implemented into my own business. This links closely to my media studies a level which i have enjoyed studying our set texts marketing strategies and the use of cross media convergence to engage a digitally native audience.

Every set text we have studied use social media to engage and communicate with their audiences, which I have a particular interest in and therefore have secured further work experience at Barclays for social media marketing.
